Health during Grandparents' era...

Here, we have few questions to be asked to ourselves and our family members;

1. How did our Elders lived for 100+ years?

2. What did they eat to live that long?

3. What was their daily routine?

4. What did they practice on a regular basis to stay fit?

5. How many hours did they sleep to stay young?

6. Did they have Stress?

7. How did they manage their Work and Life?

8. What was the ZING-THING they ate to produce 10 Children? and why is it becoming difficult to produce even 1?

9. What is Healthy Life?

10. What should I do to get there for the rest of the life?

Many of us have got these questions?,  few got answered and rest left unanswered.

    It is not such a complex thing to understand, but applying them in our lives is difficult. We are so engrossed in our lives and it has happened that, our health is left unattended, we are unable to address those tiny alarms our body tends to make, resulting in Lifestyle disorders and health distress.

Let's try Answer these question;

1. How did our Elders lived for 100+ years?

    I have heard my Elders saying "Ours was the golden period, as people lived for 125 years, they have seen their fathers lived a happy life for 100 years with good health. Upon asking them, they had one answer, "we used to walk, and eat good food and worked hard in the farms till body gives up for that day". We had ample of time for every activity, and gave prominence to everyone in the family.

2 & 3 . What did they eat to live that long? What was their daily routine?

    India/Bharath had no pandemics ever, due to the intrusion from Middle East and Europe, the deceases raised. It is like, you don't need vaccine unless you are infected, because our body was prepared such that, the food we ate had all the medicinal values in it.

Mustard - Enriches the bone density and strengthens the muscles,

Nuts - Gave Flexibility to muscles and nerves, also gave proteins, and nutrition,

Rice - Gave enough Carbohydrates,

Cereals and Pulses - gave vitamins and nutrition to the whole body,

    One thing was quite prominent when they discussed about their health, "We had healthy Lunch like Breakfast, and medium brunch during noon, and gave rest to the body during afternoon, and worked till the dusk, and slept at 7 Pm. They used to wakeup at 4o clock in the morning and had completed their morning walk along with their morning ablutions. They walked around a kilometer to complete their Morning Ablutions, and came home to engage in Cleaning the Cow-Shed, each of them had at least 5 Cows and 4 Ox'es  / Bulls. Give them the morning doze of breakfast and by 6 everyone except women hit the farm and let the cows graze and bulls engage in ploughing activities. During these activities the food he had eaten was properly digested and by that time it would have converted into energy for next day activities, and saga continued.

After reading this, you might have got many questions answered.

     I have observed my co-farmers practicing this till date. (*Due to globalization, many farmers got their food habits have influenced by west, its very rare to see the age old practice of having good food). Their regular routine included, a solid breakfast at 7:00 am in the morning, which included Jaggary plus Millet Based food stuff, Rich Fibrous Rotis, and Lentil based veggies cooked well which helped digest evenly and slowly. Early age doctors, Nadi Vaidyas, always say that energy should generate slowly so that it sustain for long. Instant Energy was only given to the weak and un-healthy bodies.

Routine best suited for them who aspire to live 100 years;

1. Wake-Up at Brahmi Muhurtam, 4 am or 5 am,

2. Walk to complete the morning ablutions,

3. Eat Heavy breakfast with right diet your body is adjusted to,

4. Work hard till lunch,

5. Spend time with your animals feed them,

6. Take quick nap and oxygenate your body for an hour or so,

7. Get back to work,

8. Break the day by dusk and have your dinner by 6 or 7 in the evening,

9. Plan for next day,

10. Sleep by 8 pm.

4. What did they practice on a regular basis to stay fit? 5. How many hours did they sleep to stay young?, 6. Did they have Stress?

    Their routine involved a healthy walk, bends, twists, jog for sometime with Farm  Animals while working in farms.

    Naturally they all had 6 packs, and 7 inch Biceps, without going to gym. Farm activities involved; Arranging Ploughs, Spreading Fertilizers, Levelers/Dozers, Seeding, De-weeding, Watering, Harvesting, thrashing, and bagging the grains.

    They never had tractors to plough, and due to this the soil was healthy and so do our bodies.

    They never used chemicals in their farms till 1969, and never tasted alcohol before it was introduced by West. Instead they had Gou-Mutra, Milk, Butter-milk, Clarified Butter from their own Cows. They drank the potion prepared from Horse Gram (HURULI KALU), Lemon Grass, and many herbal medicines to keep healthy.

    Moreover they practiced what they thought. "Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinaha", let all live happily, they never thought of their self, or they were not selfish. It was very rare to see the tussles.

    Women too, woke up in the Brahmi Moohortam, and they too walked a kilometer to complete their morning ablution, and come back and they got occupied in house hold chores. House hold chores involved;

1. Thrashing the seeds/grams/lentils, (i.e. dee-seeding process)

2. Grind them in the natural stone grinder at very low RPM,

3. Clean them and prepare Rotis, Veggies they grew in their backyard,

4. Take the food to her better-half working in the farm space,

5. Work with him till dusk and come back home along with him,

6. Get the house arranged and plan for next day and

7. Rest for the day.

8. Note: Women used to get a good amount or rest during menstruation, 5 days she used to take rest and no work. That rest gave her boost to work for that entire month, and saga continued.

    Just to imagine, the kind of work, women did at home had all kinds of sit-ups, push-ups, twisting, bending, and kapal-bhatis during the day. Are we doing all of this?

    As they grew old their children took over the chores and the elderly people went to farm and helped the young one in grazing the cows and feeding the farm animals.

    At this time, many of us have got many answers about healthy lifestyle. However it is observed that Men, Women, Children had good and sound 8 hours of tight sleep for a healthy next day activities. Since they had planned for the next day , the stress level was very minimal, thus they never had disorders like Diabetes, Hypertension, and women never got their PCOD, Thyroid disorders and lot more. Women especially never had C-sections. Due to their chores and activities they have given birth to BHIM like son and daughters.

7. How did they manage their Work and Life?

    They celebrated festivals on Full Moon and New Moon day, and they enjoyed good food with their kith and kin, which made them socially connected and thus it helped them manage their work and life. Everyone helped everyone, and everyone knew each others problems, and they together solved each others problems at large.

9. What is Healthy Life?

    After reading all this, you might have realized the meaning and gist of healthy life. Can we practice it, beyond FB and W/App and INSTAS? :)

10. What should I do to get there for the rest of the life?

    Well well well, we have hit the bottom, lets close our eyes and think about good things and bad things about our life. Is Money only the parameter to live healthy? I know its very difficult to think without it, but it is not everything which will give you the great sense of happiness. Paisa can bring wealth, but not health... (its proven, so no arguments here), hehehe...

    Should I start thinking about everyone in the society, might increase the health horizon by and large, there are multiple dimensions to our lives, lets analyze them and apply them to live healthy and happy in the rest of the life, we are left with. (Jiyo aur Jeene do).

    Mr. Amith, you have left the crucial point #8!!!, I knew you would ask that, which is buzz thing in todays hustle bustle life, its very simple, No Chemical - No Weeds - No Stress - No jealousy gave them good thoughts, and good thoughts gave them good health, and good health gave them good and healthy sperms, and rest you understand...

        The point is:

        What we Eat and the way we Live, is what we are...

    I will come with many such interesting discussions eventually... Do share this Blog and your thoughts whenever you have time.
